What are company Earnings Express (EE) reports and who generates them
Company Earnings Express (EE) reports are generated by public firms to show their expectation on main performance indicators before upcoming quarter/annual financial report are published.
Is Earnings Express report a mandatory filing or voluntary disclosure
Companies voluntarily disclose EE reports except for under the following circumstances:
a) Leakage of upcoming formal quarter reports or other nonpublic information, which could make stocks and other derivatives' price fluctuate abnormally.
b) Planning to issue first quarter's Earnings Forecast (EF) but having not issued annual financial report for the last fiscal year. According to Shenzhen stock exchange, firms have to disclose EE of last fiscal year before companies issue the first quarter's EF.
How far in advance of the quarter or annual financial statements is EE typically available
Usually EE are issued one to two months ahead of upcoming financial reports. Firms tend to issue EE on an annual or semi-annual basis.
What are company Earnings Forecasts (EF) and who generates them
Company Earnings Forecast (EF) data shows filling companies' forecast about changes of their net income, revenue, EPS, etc. before upcoming financial report come out.
Is Earnings Forecast report a mandatory filing or voluntary disclosure
Companies voluntarily disclose EF except in the following circumstances:
Anticipating fiscal-year losses, earnings increase or decrease by at least 50%, or making a profit in the current fiscal period after reporting a loss in the previous fiscal period.
How far in advance of the quarter or annual financial statements is EF typically available
Usually EF are issued one to three months ahead of upcoming financial reports.
What are the main differences between EE and EF report
Performance Indicators Coverage: Earnings Express covers more financial indicators comparing to Earnings Forecast reports.
Usefulness: Both Earnings Express and Earnings Forecast provide valuable insights on companies' performance. EE provides financial indicators' year-on-year changes, such as ROE cut (%), which are very helpful to compare a company's period to period performance. EF focuses on estimated performance indicators' upper and lower limit, such as estimated EPS lower/upper limit, which provide a general idea of companies' earnings.
Quantity: Companies are more likely to issue EF due to the high threshold for mandatory EE reports.
Can you clarify the meaning of Fiscal Period in DY6
China sets up its standard fiscal year beginning from January to end of December.
Quarter 1 = Q1 (1-3) = fiscal period 3
Semi-annual = S1 (1-6) = fiscal period 6
Quarter 3 = Q3 (7-9) = fiscal period 3 or Cumulative Quarter 3 = CQ3 (1-9) = fiscal period 9
Annual = A (1-12) = fiscal period 12
